Our Choral Society was founded in 1912; this was shortly after Ralph Vaughan Williams
and his friends started the Leith Hill Musical Festival in order to take choral
singing into the villages and introduce it to people who, before the days of mass
transport and hi-fi at home, would not otherwise have experienced it. Although
we are no longer a part of the Festival, our own objectives still mirror to a
large extent those of its founder: we aim to provide an opportunity for choral
singing to those who, for whatever reason, choose not to sing in the Guildford
or other larger-town choirs.
